The Wanderers: Buy
It's About Time - CD
The Wanderers, Carl Allen and Bill Murlin, met in a college folk trio in 1959. Their music has been influenced by Woody Guthrie, The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, The Everly Brothers, Tom Paxton and The Chad Mitchell Trio. "It's About Time" was the popular reaction when the Wanderers announced this, their first album after more than 45 years of singing together. The songs include some The Wanderers sang in college to others more recently written, all chosen with their potential harmonies and gentle acoustic accompaniments in mind.Carl and Bill are known in the Pacific Northwest for their programs highlighting the songs Woody Guthrie wrote in the region in 1941, published as The Columbia River Collection.
Woody Guthrie Columbia River Collection - CD
In May 1941, Woody Guthrie wrote 26 songs in 30 days in Portland, OR. While there he recorded a number of the songs on acetate disks. Later, Guthrie recorded a few of the Columbia River songs for commercial albums. This CD collects 17 of the Columbia River songs recorded by Guthrie, some of them published for the first time ever. The CD contains the only known recording of Guthrie singing "Roll On, Columbia."
